Dr. Sumeet Chopra, is a distinguished ophthalmologist known for his exceptional contributions to the field. Currently serving as the Professor and Head of Ophthalmology at DMC & Hospital, Ludhiana, he has garnered extensive experience and expertise over the years.

Dr. Chopra’s educational journey began at Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, where he earned his MBBS degree in December 1991. Following this, he completed his internship at the same institution in December 1992, demonstrating a commitment to his alma mater.

 His academic prowess is evident through the various distinctions achieved during his medical school years, including being the first in Punjab University for the MBBS program.

With a focus on ophthalmology, Dr. Sumeet Chopra pursued residency at Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, from July 1993 to June 1997, where he further honed his skills. His dedication led him to a pre-residency at Pahwa Charitable Hospital from July to September 1997. Dr. Chopra’s pursuit of excellence continued with a Fellowship (F.M.R.F.) at Medical Research Foundation, Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, specializing in vitreoretinal diseases from October 1997 to March 1999.

He earned the prestigious Diplomate in Ophthalmology (D.N.B.) from the National Board in August 2002 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (F.R.C.S) in Ophthalmology in 2001. Notably, Dr. Chopra was awarded the Muthuswamy Medal from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, recognizing him as the most distinguished candidate in the FRCS exam in 2001.
During his post-graduation, Dr. Sumeet Chopra had the privilege of working closely with Professor George Hilton, a visiting faculty from the University of California—San Francisco. This invaluable experience included assisting in complex vitreoretinal procedures, particularly those related to the pioneering technique of Pneumatic Retinopexy.Dr. Chopra’s outstanding academic and professional journey has been adorned with significant awards and recognitions. His achievements include distinctions in professional exams, being the first in Punjab University for MBBS, and receiving the Dr. L.H. Lobo memorial silver medal for being the best graduate. Notably, he was awarded the title of the Best Vitreoretinal Fellow in 1999 at Medical Research Foundation, Sankara Nethralaya.
